Pastor Jenkins is Board Member of New Moms Inc., which serves over 1000 highly at-risk young mothers and children of Latino, White and African-American decent. Most have no permanent home and are considered officially homeless, living on the streets with their children. A greater percentage are survivors—or continuing victims—of abuse, neglect, abandonment, sexual exploitation, and domestic violence. As board member, Jenkins works to enable, empower, and equip at-risk adolescent parents and their children through services and mentoring based on Christian values to break the cycle of poverty among adolescent parents and their children.
Rev. Jenkins also currently serves as Executive Director of Business and Community Development of the Heritage Community Development Corporation (HCDC) as board member of the urban outreach and community based organization. The organization serves the communities of: Beverly, Morgan Park, Brainerd, Washington Heights and Auburn-Gresham.
Jenkins active involvement in ministry began at his "home church" the Third Baptist Church of Chicago where he served in various areas of ministry and where his spiritual and Christian roots were nurtured under the pastoral leadership of both the Rev. Elmer L. Fowler and Rev. Dr. Alan V. Ragland. His passion for ministry continued while serving at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA where he actively worked with the Jail & Prison Mentoring Ministry sharing the transforming message of the gospel to those incarcerated. It was in Virginia where he experienced and acknowledged a stronger ministry calling on his life.
Upon returning to Chicago in 1998, he was licensed to the Gospel Ministry in 2002 and ordained to Christian Ministry in 2004 at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. He has served as Resident Chaplain in the Emergency Department and Level 1 Trauma Center at the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital of Downers Grove, Illinois as part of his Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
Among the many gifts and talents with which God has blessed Reverend Jenkins, none are more meaningful and fulfilling to him than teaching and preaching. He is sensitive to the spiritual needs of individuals, and therefore focuses on the caring-end of ministry, salvation, social justice and sound biblical doctrine, along with discipleship training. He has a passion for strengthening the spiritual and practical lives of families through the life-changing, uncompromising Word of God and support through church ministries to empower and uplift of God’s people. Rev. Jenkins has worked with adolescent males in areas of: anger management, crime prevention, self-esteem, spiritual and cultural awareness.
Finally, Rev. Jenkins along with his wife, LaDawne have been married for 14 years and are the proud god-parents of seven god-children. The two have served as facilitators for several workshops and seminar presenters on topics of: Congregational Transformation, Stewardship, Church and Leadership Transition.
